Baker Skateboards – A Great Skateboarding CompanyThe Baker Skateboards is a company that has come into existence in 2000. The founders of this great skateboard company are none other than the Andrew Reynolds (professional skateboarder) and the Jay Strickland (creative skateboarder). This company produces mainly two major parts - skateboard decks and wheels. A Brief About The History Of The Baker Skateboards Company
It all started when Andrew Reynolds who was a professional skater was sidelined because the Birdhouse Skateboards for which he was working thought he was not fitting with their brand image. Baker was started with the help and encouragement from Jay Strickland with the active support from another leading company - the Blitz Distribution. Andrew had to buy 50% of the shares of the Baker in 2002 from Blitz and thus became the sole owner of the company. After a while, Jay Strickland launched his own company called the Baker-Bootleg just about two years after the original company was founded. Unfortunately, the company did not kick off the ground and folded. Why Is The Deck Important In Skateboarding The skateboard in fact is the deck. What is a deck? It is (normally) a tiny wooden platform - about 79 cm long and 20 cm wide - where a rider places his/ her feet so he/ she could use the skateboard. This is not only the most important part of the skateboard, but also the most prominent. The desk in complemented by four wheels which are fixed to axels, also known as trucks. The wheels are mounted on the skateboard deck (lower side). The decks come in different strengths such as 3, 5, 7 and 9 ply. This means that the skateboard deck is made by so many numbers of layers of plywood, i.e. 3 for 3 ply, 5 for 5 ply and so on. The making of a good skateboard deck is very hard work. The ply wood has to be pasted carefully alternating the grain direction of the wood. In this way the skateboard would not open up in different layers when used for a while or exposed to the vagaries of nature. The Baker Skateboards is one of the best deck makers in the world. Their skateboards go through extremely stringent quality test before these hit the market, and hence when you buy a Baker Skateboards, you would be assured that you are buying the best there is - with total guarantee. There are many sizes, patterns and designs among the Baker Skateboards from where you could choose anything that pleases your sight and suits your expertise level. The advantage of buying from a renowned branded company such as Baker Skateboards is that you are assured about the quality you are paying for. There would be 'accidental' breakage or un-bonding of ply or wheel jams with these skateboards. It is always important that you buy your skateboards - whether it is your first or for your competitions - from a reputed and well tested company. It could be disastrous if you start out with an inferior quality (read cheap) skateboard and that broke while you were performing your feats in the skateboarding tournaments. Besides the embarrassment caused, it could highly dangerous to your life. The Baker Skateboards is one of the best there is when it comes to decks and wheels. |
