Skateboard Decks Beginner's Guide

Some individuals prefer to custom build their skateboard instead of purchasing the complete skateboard package from retailers. Usually, the individuals that would like to customize their skateboards have been a participant in the sport for quite some time and they know what options they would like to have on their skateboards. There are many retailers that will allow individuals to purchase the items to build a custom skateboard separately. The most important parts of custom built skateboards are the skateboard decks.

There are quite a few retailers that sell skateboard decks independent of any attachments. These skateboard decks come in a wide variety of woods, colors, and designs. The most commonly used woods for skateboards include maple and bamboo, chosen for the strength and flexibility of the wood. Skateboard decks made out of these materials are better able to withstand the stresses of doing tricks with the skateboard and allow for easier maneuverability. Some skateboard decks have air pockets present within the wood to make the deck lighter for easier handling. Each retailer has specific designs that they market for their brand. It is somewhat rare to find solid color skateboard decks as most have some type of unique design imprinted on them. With the wide variety of decks available, an individual is certain to find the skateboard decks that are right for them.

The skateboard decks can also be purchased in several different styles and sizes. The most common style of skateboard decks purchased is the traditional skateboard decks. These decks come in four sizes to accommodate the height and weight of the rider and can be easily customized by the addition of trucks, wheels and bearings. The second style of skateboard decks that are available for purchase is the longboard deck. These are styled differently than the traditional skateboard decks and allow for greater mobility when riding. The third type of skateboard decks that are commonly purchased is the rocket skateboard deck. These skateboard decks are styled like the longboard deck but are sized like the traditional decks. The type of skateboard decks chosen as the base of the skateboard depends on the personal preference of the individual that will be riding the skateboard.

After the skateboard decks have been chosen, the individual must choose the attachments that are needed to complete the project. The trucks, wheels, and bearing that will be needed can be purchased at the same retailer that the skateboard decks were purchased from. The wheels come in different sizes and colors and can be used to create a customized color scheme for your skateboards. The trucks also come in different sizes and the size of the truck will depend on the purpose that the skateboard is being used for. Some individuals choose to keep the bearings that come with the wheels to use with the skateboard deck while some others choose to replace the bearings with ones that are stronger or more silent than the typical factory bearings. The complete customization of the skateboard decks can be accomplished within a short period of time if the individual knows what they want and how to put it together.
